In an effort to boost the global economy, the U.S. Department of Defense has begun giving out electronic gifts that are more environmentally friendly.
The Defense Department says it is giving out 50,000 gift cards that can be used to purchase digital goods, like video games, movies, and other digital content.
The gift cards will be distributed over the next three months and will be available for purchase on the department’s website and at select retailers.
The Department of Justice says the gift cards are “not intended to be used as a means of circumventing or otherwise bypassing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.”
It also notes that the gifts do not require that the recipient have a computer or smartphone to download them.
The gifts are designed to help businesses get back on track after a recent government shutdown.
A lot of businesses have been forced to close due to the shutdown.
